Interview 1:
Name: Sherin
Background: Homemaker, MA in social work
Age: 32
Gender: female
Role she plays: Person affected by the problem
1)What do you think about the source of this problem? How do you feel about it?
I think that we are the source of this problem and I feel that this place needs a lot of improvement. I feel the garbage it is a breeding ground for diseases and since I am a mother I am concerned.
2)Have you had any experiences in which you have been affected by the garbage?
Not really, but in the newspapers they have all these articles about children dying of all the diseases caused by badly maintained garbage and that causes a lot of stress for me.
3)Every time you pass this do you think of doing something to make it better? Something to improve this for everyone?
Sometimes I feel rather helpless. I don’t really know who to approach and I feel that we can’t really do anything if the government is not will to support us.
4)As we know that badly maintained garbage is a problem in other areas as well what do you think could be an effective long term solution?
I think advocacy within this society is needed first. I think there should be a “watch dog” system like the 2 bin one bag system we have in our apartment. People also have to be more aware. And since the government is not doing much I think we should put pressure on the authorities to start taking responsibility.
Interview 2:
Name: Ravneet
Background: TCS worker
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Role she plays: Person affected by the problem
1)What do you think about the source of this problem? How do you feel about it?
I think that dustbins not being placed in proper places is the source of the problem. I don’t feel that this is nice as it is a problem for all of us.
2)Have you had any experiences in which you have been affected by the garbage?
Yes, not over here in this society, but when I go to beaches the garbage really spoils the beauty of the beach and when I was new here it really gave me a bad impression of this place.
3)Every time you pass this do you think of doing something to make it better? Something to improve this for everyone?
Yes. I think I should start instilling it in children so that when they grow up they also don’t start littering and that will make a bit of a difference.
4)As we know that badly maintained garbage is a problem in other areas as well what do you think could be an effective long term solution?
I think that garbage bins should be placed in the right areas and the bins should be cleared regularly as sometimes people throw it outside as the bin is overflowing. I also think that if the leaders start taking steps the public will follow.
